Lies you tell yourself that are stopping you from being successful

Are you thinking about venturing out on your own, but something is stopping you? Are you convincing yourself that perhaps you can’t do it, or you shouldn’t do it just yet? You’re not the only one. There are plenty of people out there who are just too scared to start a business on their own. Do you tell yourself the below lies that are stopping you from being successful?

Lie #1 There's too much competition

If you are in a running race with 10 people, would you quit before you ran because you’re competing against nine others? No, you wouldn’t (and if you would/have we need to have a serious conversation about giving up).

Any given industry has competition. It doesn’t mean you should stop yourself from venturing into that industry because of it. Some advice; just be the best at what you do. If you’re competing against twenty other businesses in your area that do what you do, it’s easy, just do it better.

Lie #2 My success hurts others

Sometimes work can get in the way of your personal life. However, you need to ask yourself if you’re surrounding yourself with the right people. Are they supportive of what you’re doing and your successes or are they trying to knock it down? If the answer is yes, they are, then perhaps you in need to remove them from your circle. Unless you’re deliberately pushing people down to get where you want to be, your success is not hurting others. People who love you will always support and encourage your success and enjoy watching your business grow.

Lie #3 It takes luck

When people describe other ‘successful’ people as “lucky” it’s only because they didn’t see how that person got to where they are now. Being successful means, you have to work for it. This doesn’t mean you always have to work hard; it only means that you know what you need to do and how you’re going to get there. Don’t compare yourself to other successful people/businesses. People run their own race, as long as your focussed on your businesses growth and where you want to be, you will eventually get there. And who knows, maybe people will look at you and say, “wow they got lucky.”

Lie #4 It's too late

There is not a perfect time or age to go for what you want. The economy will never be perfect for you to jump in, you either want to do it or you don’t, there are no ‘buts.’ If you have an idea, go for it. It doesn’t matter if you think you’ve ‘missed the boat,’ give it a go and see what happens!

Lie #5 I don't have enough money

It’s no lie that having an endless cash supply would make starting a business easier, however it isn’t a fundamental. If you have confidence in your idea, service and/or product don’t allow your lack of capital stop you from reaching your business goals. Ask yourself this: is there a demand for my business? If so, who wants it, and how do I give it to them? You will probably have to start small, but if there is genuine interest in what you’re offering, it won’t take long for you to start seeing cash flow rising.
