Five tips to maximise productivity at work

Being on your A-game at work 24/7 can be really difficult. However, there are little changes you can make to increase your productivity on a daily basis.

1. De-clutter and organise your work environment

Is your desk crowded with papers, to do lists or important documents? De-clutter it!! If you spend your day searching your desk for something you could have sworn you left there, take five minutes and get organised. There’s a lot to be said about less ‘stuff’ can help decrease your anxiety at your desk.

Clean up your workspace and your mind will thank you for it. You’ll see a difference in your thought processes and have more time with less distractions.

2. Take regular breaks

Quality over quantity. This is such an important thing to remember. There is no point sitting at your desk all day staring at a screen if you aren’t producing quality work. If you feel yourself getting distracted or lethargic, take a break! Stretch your legs, get a coffee, or go for a quick walk to get your brain and mind back into work mode.

Taking five minutes can make a massive difference to your brain and can be the little push you need to get back into work mode for the remainder of the day.

3. Eliminate distractions

Are you finding yourself easily distracted at work? Firstly, identify what is causing the distractions (aka social media or personal to do items etc) and establish ways to decrease the distraction.

Put your phone on ‘do not disturb’ or in your draw. If you’re finding your colleagues distracting you, try putting your headphones in. This will automatically tell people you’re busy and ‘please don’t disturb’ without you having to say it. You’ll find yourself getting more and more work done each day #winning!

4. Prioritise

Have a long task list but don’t know where to start? Prioritise, prioritise, prioritise! Take five minutes each morning to look at your list and order it in according to importance. Decipher if any of your tasks have deadlines and do them first. Then order them from most to least important. Also be realistic about how much you can complete each day – allocate a few major tasks per day and you’ll find yourself smashing through your task list on a daily and weekly basis.

5. Do the worst task first

Got a number of priority tasks? Tackle the least desirable task first and get it done and dusted. This will mean you’ll spend less time dwelling on the fact you have a mediocre task to do, leaving your afternoon filled with the better jobs that are easier to complete.
